Arizona Office of Tourism Applauds Governor Ducey's
Commitment to Tourism

PHOENIX. (January 17, 2020) - Governor Ducey today, announced his budget for Fiscal Year 2021. The Governor’s budget provides funding for statewide destination management, a rural tourism development program, target city marketing and promotion of Arizona’s wine regions.

Many of Arizona’s rural communities count tourism as one of their main economic drivers. Additional dollars for statewide destination management and a rural tourism development program to expand the current rural marketing program, including rural tourism development, develop materials to promote the “Leave No Trace” campaign and enroll additional undesignated visitors centers into the Arizona Visitor Information Center program.

The Arizona Office of Tourism actively exports Arizona’s brand domestically and internationally to raise awareness of Arizona as a leading travel destination. Additional funds recommended in Governor Ducey’s FY 2021 budget include an increase in funding for target city marketing efforts. These funds will allow the agency to begin marketing efforts in Denver, Colorado and continue support of other target cities. The Governor’s budget also includes money to market Arizona’s three diverse wine regions.

In his State of the State address this week, Governor Ducey said, “First, tourism and state parks. There’s no place more beautiful to vacation than scenic Arizona. And with an infusion of new dollars, we’re going to work with Tourism Director Debbie Johnson to ensure the whole world knows it.”

“The Arizona Office of Tourism is grateful for Governor Ducey’s support of our efforts to market Arizona as a leading global travel destination, said Director Debbie Johnson. “Tourism is vital to our economy, contributing $24.4 billion in direct travel spending annually. Tourism is the gateway for economic development in Arizona and we are excited to get to work to support this new infusion of dollars.”
